Mailfence Review: Trusted & Secure Private Email Service

Keeping your email secure and protected from data theft or hackers has always been a tough job. It does not matter how many tricky solutions you optimize, there is always going to be someone who is looking for an opportunity to get their hands on your private business affairs.

It gets even worse when you are thriving with your business and doing well for yourself. Believe me, it can get pretty exhausting when you constantly have to look over your shoulders and have to worry about your emails falling into wrong hands.

So here, we would not want that to happen with my visitor, now would we? We work day and night just to ensure you find only the most premium and safest solutions the Internet has to offer. Honestly speaking I will be reviewing Mailfence, a global leading and one of the most secure email service .

About Mailfence:

Mailfence is security-centric email provider that features end-to-end encryption to ensure that nobody can read your messages but you and the recipient.

What you get is an email address and web service that incorporates OpenPGP public key encryption like any email program would. You can create a key pair for your account and manage a store of keys for people you want to email securely.

That concentration on the OpenPGP standard means you can access Mailfence using IMAP and SMTP using secured SSL/TLS connections with the email program of your choice. It also means you cannot use Mailfence to send encrypted messages to people who do not use OpenPGP and have no public key available.

Mailfence is based in Belgium and is subject to EU and Belgian laws and regulations.

Additional features some users might find helpful:

  • Doesn’t use ads.
  • Email settings are open for customization and tweaking.
  • Can buy credits to send faxes and text messages.
  • Messages in the EML format can be imported.
  • Can send mail through the address you used to sign up such as your Gmail address.

For online storage, a free Mailfence account nets you a mere 500MB, although paid accounts offer ample space, together with the option to use your domain name for your Mailfence email address.

Unlike competitor in the market like ProtonMail, Mailfence’s software is not available for inspection because it’s not open source. This detracts from the system’s security and privacy.

Mailfence stores your private encryption key on Mailfence servers but insists, “…we can’t read it since it is encrypted with your passphrase (via AES-256). There is no root key that would allow us to decrypt messages encrypted with your keys.”

Something else to consider here to readjust your trust level is to realize that since Mailfence uses servers in Belgium, it’s only through a Belgian court order that the company can be forced to reveal private data.

Why Mailfence:

There are some reasons which makes them unique from any other Mailfence competitor in the market.

Very Easy: MailFence is a browser-based, no plug-ins, no add-ons. Easily create and manage your keys in a single place.

Fully Private: All the cryptography is done by your browser. You are protected by Belgian law. No third-party in the market access to your data.

100% Secure: Mailfence gives True OpenPGP end-to-end encryption on a secured infrastructure.

Freedom to use: With Mailfence you are free to choose which emails to encrypt, communicate securely with anyone using the OpenPGP standard, import/export keys.

Take a look at the Inbox of Mailfence given below.

Why It is Private Email:

Privacy is a right, not a feature. This is the founding principle of the Mailfence service.

  • No tracking, no advertising
  • No third-party access to your data
  • No one can read your encrypted e-mails
  • Strict privacy laws
  • Transparency

Why It is Secure Email:

  • Locally hosted and total control over our servers
  • They use software that take security seriously
  • Forcing SMTP outgoing mail encryption
  • Secure access
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Integrated keystore
  • Digital signatures
  • OpenPGP end-to-end encryption (E2EE)
  • Service-level strong message validation (SPF, DKIM, …)

Pricing and Plans

The one big thing that makes Mailfence unique is that the prices are displayed openly on its website to any visitor. I think Mailfence deserves praise for doing this.

No other competing services have this level of transparency. Other design and animation Tools will hide the prices or make you sign up before you see them. This is often done to sneak in hidden charges that they don’t want to reveal until they’ve gotten you to register.

Final Recommendation:

With all this in mind, let’s get down to the question, “would we recommend it?”

Absolutely, “YES”. Mailfence  is a very valuable service for any business or influencer trying to increase their brand visibility by using Mailfence secure and private email service.

For the purpose of this review, I have used Mailfence for a total of three weeks so far. Within that time frame my account experienced a good amount of growth.

So if you’re looking to spread brand awareness on the platform, Mailfence will do the trick nicely.
